when you're editing a sequence chances are you're going to want to move some of your clips around within the sequence and what i'd like to do is show you some different techniques that are available to you as you try to make these changes the first thing i want to do is i want to add some audio tracks to this sequence to give you an idea is the
audio that we're going to be working with and what we're going to try to sync up now you'll find that the audio files that would be working with are quite a bit shorter than the video files so we have to get somewhat creative in terms of how we're going to edit this piece together let's go ahead and open up the audio bin inside the audio bin if we
scroll down a little bit you'll find that there's an audio file called practicing anatomy the hand this is a voiceover that we're going to use and what i'd like you to do is drag this into the sequence and you can see it's quite a bit shorter than our video files now we also want some background audio to play you'll notice inside the audio
bin we have another audio file called teller of the tails it's an mp3 file go ahead and drag that into the sequence in it too is shorter than the video let's not be overly concerned with this right now but what i'd like to show you is how you can move your clips if you find that you have to as your editing a sequence now the first thing that you'll
probably do if you want to move a clip is to simply click and drag it but as you do this you really don't have a ton of precision if you want this to essentially be in place of this clip once you let go of the mouse you'll notice you're really kind of cutting off that other clip i'm going to undo that commands your controls and windows what
you want to do is you want to swap these clips so in order for you to be able to perform a swap you have to hold down some modifier keys on the keyboard here on the mac you're going to hold down the command key and the option key if you're on the windows side it would be control option when you do that you'll get an interesting icon for your cursor the
icon is basically showing you you're about to swap clips so if you click and drag this as you place this at the first edit point you kind of feel it snap in place hopefully i'm gonna go ahead and bring this back here for a second it's really important to come over here and select this option which is snap the option is selected if it's blue
if it's grey it means it's not selected so in this case you'll notice it's grey i'll click it so it turns blue again snapping gives you the ability to snap to these edit points it also gives you the ability to snap to the playhead in this case you want the precision of the snap sometimes you don't but in this case we
do so it really is helpful to have this option selected so again hold down those modifier keys which is command option on the mac ctrl alt on windows click and drag this now once you place this on that edit point it will snap into place if you take a look at your program monitor you'll see essentially the first two frames of the two clips when you let
go of the mouse you can see that those clips have been swamped so that's really the best way of doing that otherwise you're gonna have to move this one out of the way then you have to place this in the correct location and it's somewhat of a hassle so the swap is really handy so i'm gonna go ahead and undo that commands your controls and
windows because i do like the sequence of the clips one thing that i do want to to however is move these clips down in time within the sequence now we can do that by moving this playhead and i'm gonna place the playhead right around here around the one-minute mark a little bit before the one-minute mark so i'm at 55 seconds we can always tweak this a
little bit later on but i just want to show you that you can move everything and snap it to the playhead if you have this snap option selected so i'm gonna click and drag a marquee around everything here then if you click and drag to the right you'll notice it snaps into place the beginning section of all those clips and audiophiles snap to that
play head when you let go of the mouse you can see that you easily moved all of these clips down in time so that should give you a good understanding as to how you can rearrange and move your clips within a sequence
